Assistant Underwriting Officer

About the role

The Assistant Underwriting Officer will support underwriting, business development, portfolio administration and client relationship activities for Africa Re in the Ugandan market. Reporting to the Assistant Director – Underwriting & Marketing, the role contributes to the growth and maintenance of a profitable reinsurance portfolio.

Key responsibilities

• Support acquisition, assessment and onboarding of cedents, brokers and other partners while ensuring compliance with KYC and regulatory requirements.
• Review and underwrite facultative reinsurance submissions, including risk assessment, pricing, quotation preparation, negotiation of terms and renewal management.
• Assist in treaty underwriting and renewal processes, validate data quality, prepare quotations and conduct renewal analyses.
• Monitor bound business to ensure timely receipt of reinsurance slips, premium closings and related contractual documentation.
• Process contracts, endorsements and amendments in the corporation’s reinsurance administration systems, maintaining high data quality.
• Prepare and submit production reports, portfolio analyses, management reports and exception reports.

Required profile

• Report directly to the Assistant Director – Underwriting & Marketing.

Required skills

• Knowledge of KYC compliance and regulatory requirements.
• Understanding of facultative and treaty reinsurance processes.
