Civil Engineer

About the role

The Civil Engineer will play a pivotal technical role in the planning, design, construction, supervision and maintenance of the commercial property portfolio of Birus Property Services Ltd, a fast‑growing real‑estate developer in Uganda.

Key responsibilities

• Lead feasibility studies, site assessments and conceptual designs for new commercial developments, expansions and refurbishments.
• Prepare detailed engineering designs, drawings, specifications and bills of quantities for civil works, foundations, drainage, roads and structural elements.
• Ensure all designs comply with Ugandan building codes, environmental regulations and international best practices.
• Collaborate with architects and other consultants to integrate civil engineering aspects into overall project designs.
• Supervise day‑to‑day construction activities on site, conduct regular inspections, material testing and quality‑control checks.
• Monitor project progress, identify risks or delays and implement corrective actions to keep projects on schedule and within budget.
• Manage contractors and subcontractors, ensuring adherence to contractual obligations, safety protocols and quality standards.
• Support ongoing property maintenance projects and coordinate with internal teams to achieve seamless operations.

Required profile

• Minimum 48 months (4 years) of civil engineering experience in commercial real‑estate or construction.
• Proven track record in project planning, design and construction supervision.
• Familiarity with Ugandan building codes and environmental regulations.
• Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders.
