Emergency Vehicle Technician

About the role

The Emergency Vehicle Technician is responsible for maintaining and repairing a wide range of emergency and heavy‑equipment vehicles, including fire trucks, ARFF apparatus, ambulances, and other specialized machinery. You will ensure that all equipment is safe, reliable, and ready for rapid deployment.

Key responsibilities

• Perform maintenance, repair, and servicing of assigned fire vehicles and related equipment.
• Conduct heavy‑equipment tasks such as engine removal, hydraulic and pneumatic system overhaul, and air‑conditioning repair.
• Calibrate load‑monitoring indicators and rebuild hydraulic cylinders, valves, planetary drives, suspensions, and other components.
• Replace seals, bearings, axle brakes, and perform crane rigging as needed.
• Document work orders, invoices, and equipment repair records.
• Follow all safety policies, handle hazardous waste properly, and perform recovery operations.
• Serve as point‑of‑contact for maintenance issues in the absence of a supervisor.

Required profile

• Minimum two years of heavy‑vehicle maintenance experience in emergency, civilian, or military environments.
• High school diploma or equivalent and a valid driver’s license.
• Ability to diagnose mechanical and electrical faults using electronic test equipment.
• Knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, and related safety standards (OSHA, ANSI, ASME).
• Prefer EVT Level 1 certification for fire apparatus, ambulance, or ARFF.
