Laboratory Technician – Contractor

About the role

The Laboratory Technician will work on‑site for Aspen Medical, supporting the United Nations Office in Somalia (UNSOS). You will perform a wide range of laboratory tests, ensuring accurate and timely results while adhering to strict quality and safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct laboratory tests and procedures in line with UNSOS protocols, international standards, and local regulations.
• Maintain precise records of specimen collection, processing, and result reporting.
• Participate in audits, quality control activities, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Follow SOPs for safe handling of biological materials and chemicals.
• Manage specimen, reagent, and chemical storage and ensure proper handling.
• Monitor equipment performance, perform routine maintenance, and coordinate repairs.
• Maintain laboratory cleanliness and infection‑control practices to prevent cross‑contamination.

Required profile

• Mid‑level qualification with at least 36 months of relevant laboratory experience.
• Familiarity with UNSOS or similar humanitarian health protocols is advantageous.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to patient safety.
• Ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
