Mechanical Engineer – Kampala (Full‑time)

About the role

Bureau Veritas is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to lead certification and verification activities for mechanical engineering works in Uganda. The role involves on‑site inspections, audits and reporting to ensure compliance with engineering, safety and regulatory standards.

Key responsibilities

• Draft Verification & Certification Activity Reports for mechanical works and define scope and budget.
• Perform site surveillance to certify installation and testing of pipelines, pumps, compressors, valves and storage tanks.
• Verify that mechanical components meet engineering specifications, BS EN, ISO and other relevant standards.
• Lead audit meetings with Quality Control managers and stakeholders, documenting findings and corrective actions.
• Prepare and submit detailed inspection reports after each site visit.
• Review mechanical installation plans, design specifications and compliance documentation.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or Technical Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 10 years of mechanical engineering experience, including at least 3 years on international projects.
• At least 2 years experience as a rotational inspector.
• ISO 9712 Level 2 certification (UT, MT, PT, RT) – mandatory.
• Good health and ability to handle physical demands of on‑site inspections.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team.

Required skills

• Pipeline design principles, API and ASME codes.
• Hydraulic calculations and hydro‑testing procedures.
• NDT assessment methods (UT, MT, PT, RT) for pipeline integrity.
• Knowledge of mechanical systems such as pumps, valves and heating systems.
• Material receipt verification and fabrication yard inspection.
• Inspection reporting and compliance with quality assurance standards.
