Scientist – Forest Law Enforcement

About the role
The Scientist – Forest Law Enforcement will provide scientific guidance for research on forest governance and law enforcement. Working within CIFOR, the role involves designing high‑quality studies, supervising publications, and building capacity across multiple regions.
Key responsibilities
- Provide scientific guidance ensuring research concepts and methods meet the highest standards.
- Collaborate with theme coordinators to define and implement emerging research activities.
- Write, supervise and disseminate scientific publications and communications.
- Lead and supervise project capacity‑building initiatives and mentor junior scientists.
- Represent CIFOR in national, regional and global forums related to forest governance.
- Develop and maintain constructive partnerships with stakeholders.
- Identify and secure additional funding for relevant research areas.
- Plan, monitor and report on research activities, including financial management.
Required profile
- PhD in a relevant discipline (e.g., forestry, environmental science, social sciences).
- Experience in collaborative natural‑resource management or social‑science research.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects and develop budgets.
- Strong publication record in peer‑reviewed journals.
- Demonstrated success in resource mobilisation, proposal development and donor reporting.
- Fluent spoken and written English; additional international language(s) an advantage.
