Senior Internal Auditor

About the role

The Senior Internal Auditor will support Cairo Bank Uganda’s audit function by delivering assurance and advisory services that enhance risk management and help achieve the bank’s strategic objectives. Reporting to the Audit Manager, you will lead audit engagements from planning through reporting and follow‑up.

Key responsibilities

• Develop risk assessments and audit plans for assigned units in line with the annual audit plan.
• Design and execute audit tests to evaluate controls, identify gaps, and ensure compliance with policies and regulations.
• Prepare clear audit reports, discuss findings with line managers, and recommend corrective actions.
• Investigate reported fraud or forgery cases as assigned.
• Review and report to the Bank of Uganda on a daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly basis.
• Follow up on audit issues to verify implementation of corrective measures.
• Update audit programs, manuals and raise staff awareness on risk management.
• Continuously develop professional knowledge through training and self‑study.

Required profile

• First degree in a relevant field.
• Professional accounting or auditing qualification (e.g., ACCA, CIA, CPA, CFA, CFE) is an advantage.
• Minimum 3 years of audit experience, preferably within a financial institution.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of internal audit standards and regulatory requirements.
• Ability to design audit procedures and assess control effectiveness.
