Umpire for US Navy Program – Kampala

About the role

Amentum is seeking a qualified Umpire to support a US Navy recreational sports program based on Diego Garcia. Based in Kampala, the successful candidate will travel internationally and ensure fair, safe, and enjoyable gameplay for softball, baseball, and similar league events.

Key responsibilities

• Officiate softball, baseball or comparable recreational league games according to official rules.
• Make accurate, timely calls on plays, pitches and player actions while maintaining control of the field.
• Inspect fields, equipment and player gear before each game to verify safety and compliance.
• Maintain game records, scorecards and incident reports as required.
• Communicate effectively with players, coaches and program staff to resolve disputes or clarify rules.
• Assist with scheduling, field setup and coordination of league activities.
• Promote sportsmanship, safety and positive participation throughout all events.
• Perform other duties consistent with the position as assigned.

Required profile

• 1–3 years experience officiating softball, baseball or similar sports.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Umpire certification or formal training as a sports official.
• Ability to complete and maintain required trainings (Customer Service, CPR, First Aid, AED, local emergency procedures) with annual recertification.
• Valid passport (minimum one year beyond hire date) and ability to obtain necessary visas.
• Pass contract medical requirements and maintain facility credentials.
• Proficient reading, speaking and comprehension of English.
