Accounts Assistant

About the role

Reporting to the Accountant, the Accounts Assistant will support the Finance Department in maintaining accurate financial records, processing transactions, and assisting in financial reporting while ensuring compliance with company policies and statutory requirements. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the performance and growth of a fast‑expanding insurance business.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and post journal entries in the accounting system
• Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts
• Assist in preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
• Support month‑end and year‑end closing processes
• Perform bank, cash, supplier, and customer reconciliations
• Review and process supplier invoices and payments
• Monitor receivables and support debt collection activities
• Assist in making payments of statutory returns such as PAYE, VAT, NSSF, NHIF, and Withholding Tax
• Assist in budget preparation and monitoring of expenditures
• Prepare audit schedules and support internal and external audits

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
• Minimum of 2 years’ relevant experience
• Progress in professional accounting courses (CPA/ACCA) is an added advantage
