Advocacy Associate – Survivor Leadership

About the role

The Advocacy Associate will strengthen survivor leadership across IJM’s global network by coordinating strategic initiatives, advising cross‑regional teams, and delivering trauma‑informed resources. Based in Fort Portal, the role ensures survivor voices are integrated into programming, public engagement and organizational strategy.

Key responsibilities

• Align regional survivor group strategies with the Global Survivor Network framework to ensure consistent implementation.
• Plan and facilitate Advocacy & Power of Story workshops, guaranteeing trauma‑informed delivery and cultural relevance.
• Develop and refine survivor leadership tools and key performance indicators, incorporating feedback from global teams.
• Identify professional development opportunities for survivor leaders and support their sustained engagement.
• Research, compare and share best practices across IJM teams to elevate survivor‑led advocacy.

Required profile

• Minimum bachelor’s degree in social work, counseling, community psychology or a related field.
• At least four years of experience working in social work or counseling, preferably with survivors of sexual or other violence.
• Demonstrated ability to coordinate complex projects across global teams with strong organizational skills.
• Proficiency in trauma‑informed approaches and cross‑cultural communication.
• Experience advising diverse stakeholders and reconciling priorities to sustain survivor‑led initiatives.
