Agricultural Assistant

About the role

The Agricultural Assistant will support the implementation of DRC Uganda’s Food Systems and Economic Self‑Reliance Project in several north‑western districts. Working closely with community farmer groups and project management committees, the assistant will promote climate‑smart agriculture (CSA) practices and help improve household food security.

Key responsibilities

• Mobilise and sensitize community members, including refugee and host populations, to adopt sustainable CSA techniques.
• Identify, select and profile participants for project activities according to established criteria.
• Organise and deliver technical training on enterprise selection, permagardens, and resilience‑based design.
• Establish block/cluster gardens with clear production and market plans.
• Conduct household visits, act as liaison between the project and stakeholders, and facilitate community meetings and workshops.
• Support distribution of project inputs such as cash transfers and agro‑business materials.
• Develop and deliver educational materials on ecosystem restoration, recycling, composting and water conservation.

Required profile

• Motivated individual with a strong interest in agriculture, climate‑smart practices and community development.
• Ability to work in rural settings across multiple districts.
• Good communication and facilitation skills for engaging diverse community groups.
