Alternative Education Teacher (Grades 9‑12)

About the role

The Alternative Education Teacher for grades 9‑12 will design and deliver learning experiences that support students’ intellectual, emotional, physical and social development. The role focuses on helping students reach their full potential and acquire the competencies needed to succeed in society.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement lesson plans aligned with district curriculum, incorporating accommodations for diverse learning styles.
• Assess student learning styles and use results to tailor instructional activities and materials.
• Collaborate with special‑education teachers to modify curricula and support students with Individual Education Plans.
• Supervise teacher aides and volunteers, and use technology to enhance the teaching‑learning process.
• Monitor student achievement through formal and informal assessments and provide feedback.
• Maintain a positive classroom environment, manage behavior according to the Student Code of Conduct, and serve as a role model.
• Communicate regularly with parents, principals and colleagues, and participate in staff development and faculty meetings.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
• Valid Texas teaching certificate with appropriate endorsements for the assigned subject and grade level.
• Strong knowledge of the assigned subjects and general curriculum and instruction principles.
• Ability to instruct students, manage classroom behavior, and adapt instruction to varied learning needs.
• Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
