Assistant Bursar – School Finance Officer

About the role

The Assistant Bursar will work on‑site at Kansanga Hill Primary School in Kampala, supporting the Bursar with daily financial operations. This full‑time position ensures accurate recording, processing, and reporting of all school financial transactions in line with internal policies and statutory requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare invoices, receipts and manage pupil fee ledgers.
• Post fee payments and other transactions into the accounting system.
• Manage petty cash and perform monthly bank reconciliations.
• Process payment vouchers, journal entries, bank withdrawals and cheque payments.
• Assist with monthly payroll processing.
• Prepare statutory returns such as PAYE, Withholding Tax and NSSF.
• Support the preparation of management reports, termly budgets, cash‑flow statements, annual financial statements and audit documentation.
• Respond to fee‑related inquiries and safeguard financial information.

Required profile

• Diploma in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field.
• Minimum two years of experience in an accounting or finance role; experience in education is a plus.
• Progress toward or completion of CPA Level I or higher is advantageous.
• Good knowledge of IFRS, Ugandan tax regulations and statutory compliance (PAYE, Withholding Tax, NSSF).

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
