Business Development Manager

About the role

The Business Development Manager will lead revenue growth and expand Optica’s retail footprint across Uganda. Reporting to Executive Leadership, the role focuses on securing insurance panel inclusions, optimizing partner volumes, and identifying high‑potential store locations.

Key responsibilities

• Secure and maintain Optica’s inclusion on panels of optical insurance providers, corporate medical schemes and parastatal organisations.
• Develop growth strategies for existing insurance partners based on market dynamics and customer demographics.
• Build relationships with corporate HR and wellness leads to drive exclusive optical coverage partnerships.
• Monitor and resolve service delivery gaps, especially pre‑authorization turnaround times and member queries.
• Coordinate with finance and operations to ensure seamless claim processing, accurate billing and timely payments.
• Assess real‑estate, foot‑traffic and demographic data to recommend new retail locations in Kampala and secondary cities.
• Track competitor activity, pricing trends and retail developments to keep Optica competitive.
• Plan and execute B2B brand activations, medical camps and wellness drives to increase walk‑in traffic.
• Conduct regular field visits to gather feedback and align store performance with corporate growth targets.

Required profile

• Mid‑level professional with approximately five years of experience in business development, sales or partnership management.
• Proven track record of working with insurance providers or corporate wellness programmes.
• Strong analytical ability to evaluate market data and location intelligence.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
