Business Development Officer - Alternative Distribution Channels

About the role

Britam Uganda is seeking a Business Development Officer to expand its alternative distribution channels. You will identify, develop, and manage strategic partnerships that broaden market reach, acquire new customers, and generate revenue beyond the traditional agency network.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and onboard new partners such as banks, SACCOs, telecoms, fintechs, retail chains, and NGOs.
• Design scalable, preferably fully digital, distribution models for insurance products.
• Drive market penetration in underserved areas, including agro‑processing zones and industrial parks.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with partners, negotiate agreements, and conduct weekly performance reviews.
• Achieve and exceed revenue targets, monitor partner performance, and optimise sales strategies.
• Collaborate with product teams to create customised solutions, including micro‑insurance and embedded insurance.
• Train partner staff on products, processes, and sales techniques, and develop sales tools.
• Plan and execute joint marketing campaigns and support digital activation initiatives.
• Track channel performance, prepare reports for management, and use data to refine strategies.
• Ensure all partnerships comply with regulatory and internal policies.

Required profile

• Mid‑level professional with at least 36 months (3 years) of relevant experience.
• Proven track record in business development, partnership management, and revenue growth, preferably within insurance or financial services.
• Strong negotiation and relationship‑building abilities.
• Ability to analyse performance data and drive continuous improvement.
• Knowledge of regulatory and compliance requirements for insurance distribution.
