Business Development Specialist

About the role

The Business Development Specialist will drive growth for DHL Global Forwarding in Kampala by identifying new opportunities, building relationships with prospects, and delivering tailored freight solutions. You will work closely with local and regional teams to align business development activities with the company’s strategic objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Execute business development plans to achieve customer growth, retention targets and revenue budgets.
• Conduct market and feasibility studies to assess potential and analyse target groups.
• Prospect new opportunities through market research, lead generation and marketing initiatives.
• Initiate contact with decision‑makers, understand strategic challenges and match customer needs with DHL services.
• Develop leads, conduct pre‑proposal visits, prepare complex proposals and negotiate contracts.
• Maintain and expand relationships with key prospects and accounts, coordinating with inside sales and product management.
• Partner with local, district and regional management to coordinate customer requests and promote services.
• Identify and resolve issues beyond defined procedures, influencing stakeholders and external partners.

Required profile

• Proven experience in business development or sales within logistics, freight forwarding or related sectors.
• Strong ability to conduct market research, feasibility studies and analyse customer needs.
• Excellent negotiation and relationship‑building skills with senior decision‑makers.
• Capability to work cross‑functionally with internal teams and external service providers.
• Results‑oriented mindset with a focus on achieving revenue and market‑share targets.
