Business Development Specialist

About the role

SmartQ is a technology platform that helps businesses eliminate physical queues and improve customer service through remote queueing, SMS, and WhatsApp. We are seeking a target‑driven Business Development Specialist to lead client acquisition, identify high‑potential B2B customers, and expand our user base across key sectors.

Key responsibilities

• Identify, target, and prospect potential B2B clients in banking, retail, telecoms, healthcare and other sectors.
• Conduct outbound sales outreach, deliver product demos, and negotiate contracts with corporate executives and operations heads.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders to secure long‑term service agreements.
• Analyze local market dynamics and adapt sales strategies to address industry‑specific pain points.
• Collaborate with product and onboarding teams to ensure seamless implementation for newly acquired clients.

Required profile

• 3+ years of proven B2B sales or business development experience, preferably in SaaS, tech startups, or corporate services in Africa.
• Strong network and a track record of closing deals in sectors such as banking, retail, telecoms, or healthcare.
• Good understanding of software‑as‑a‑service products and how they solve operational bottlenecks.
• Exceptional communication, negotiation, and presentation abilities.
• Self‑starter mindset capable of thriving in an early‑stage environment.
