Commis 1 – Food and Beverage Assistant

About the role

The Commis 1 supports the Food & Beverage team at Marriott International in Kampala by preparing meals, maintaining quality standards, and assisting with kitchen operations. This entry‑level position ensures guests receive consistent, high‑quality food service while adhering to safety and hygiene protocols.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare special meals, substitute items, and cold foods according to recipes and presentation standards.
• Regulate oven, broiler, grill, and roaster temperatures and manage food thawing from freezer storage.
• Maintain food logs, monitor portion sizes, garnish presentation, and ensure overall food quality.
• Communicate with chefs about excess items, menu specials, and out‑of‑stock items.
• Assist management with hiring, training, scheduling, and employee coaching as needed.
• Follow all safety, security, and company policies; report maintenance issues and complete required safety training.

Required profile

• Technical, trade, or vocational school qualification.
• At least 3 years of relevant food‑service or culinary experience.
• No supervisory experience required.
• Ability to work full‑time on‑site in a fast‑paced kitchen environment.
