About the role
The Communications Officer will lead the planning, coordination, production and quality assurance of high‑impact communications for the British Council‑led TRAIN Pillar of the Leaders in Teaching (LiT) Programme in Uganda. This role translates complex programme activities, technical evidence and learning into clear, accurate and compelling content for teachers, school leaders, government stakeholders, consortium partners, Mastercard Foundation audiences and internal British Council audiences.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and deliver success stories, case studies, newsletters, social media posts, speeches, briefing notes and presentations.
- Maintain communications repositories, content calendars, media assets and consent documentation.
- Ensure all communications are donor‑compliant, align with British Council brand, safeguarding, data protection and responsible storytelling standards.
- Coordinate with programme teams, partners, schools and field teams to capture field visibility and stakeholder updates.
- Produce donor‑facing materials and external communications that showcase programme impact.
Required profile
- First‑degree in communications, journalism, public relations, media studies, marketing, English, education, social sciences or a related field.
- At least four years of progressive experience in communications, public relations, journalism, media, knowledge management or stakeholder engagement.
- Experience supporting communications for donor‑funded education, youth, skills development or multi‑stakeholder programmes.
- Proven ability to draft, edit and produce a range of communications products.
- Experience applying safeguarding, consent, data protection or responsible communications standards.
