Community Conservation Manager

About the role

The Community Conservation (CoCo) Manager leads engagement with local communities to integrate the Queen Elizabeth Protected Area into the broader socio‑political landscape. This full‑time position ensures stakeholder buy‑in, manages expectations, and mitigates conflicts that could affect the protected area.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain relationships with local communities, traditional authorities, partner organisations and other stakeholders.
• Implement a stakeholder engagement strategy with clear communication channels.
• Facilitate local employment opportunities within the protected area.
• Lead human‑wildlife conflict mitigation measures and community consultations on park management activities.
• Oversee community‑driven initiatives such as scholarship programmes, skills development and land‑use planning.
• Support research, monitoring and adaptive management of community conservation impacts.
• Develop and implement social safeguards, including a grievance redress mechanism.
• Manage and mentor a diverse team of staff to achieve community conservation objectives.

Required profile

• Proven ability to manage and mentor an inclusive, diverse team.
• Experience coordinating community engagement and stakeholder relations.
• Capacity to lead consultations and implement adaptive management plans.
