Country Director – Uganda

About the role

The Country Director will lead GiveDirectly’s Uganda office, shaping and executing the country strategy while ensuring high‑impact cash transfer programmes reach the most vulnerable. Based in Kampala, the role combines program oversight, fundraising, and external partnership management to meet both short‑term targets and long‑term growth.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee all Uganda programmes, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and meet quality and efficiency standards.
• Manage programme teams, resolve operational challenges, and monitor key performance indicators related to recipient experience and operational efficiency.
• Develop and steward the annual budget, guaranteeing effective allocation of donor funds.
• Lead fundraising efforts, cultivating relationships with private foundations, government agencies, and individual donors to secure funding.
• Represent GiveDirectly publicly and act as the primary spokesperson in Uganda.
• Collaborate with national and local authorities to obtain necessary permissions for programme expansion.
• Establish and maintain robust safeguarding and anti‑fraud frameworks, chairing regular coordination meetings with internal audit, compliance, and finance teams.
• Travel across Uganda approximately once a month and undertake occasional international trips.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in international development or humanitarian organisations.
• Demonstrated success in managing large‑scale programmes and budgets.
• Strong track record of fundraising and building strategic donor partnerships.
• Excellent stakeholder management skills, including government and community engagement.
• Willingness to travel regularly within the country and abroad.
