Finance Specialist

About the role

The Finance Specialist will support DRC Uganda’s financial management by ensuring compliance with internal policies, donor regulations, and statutory requirements. Working closely with the Finance Manager, the role contributes to accurate reporting, effective budgeting, and strong internal controls to advance the organization’s strategic objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with DRC’s Operations Handbook, donor regulations, and statutory obligations.
• Collaborate with area and project managers to develop, review, and revise project budgets.
• Provide financial oversight, analyze variances, and recommend corrective actions.
• Prepare and update monthly Budget Follow‑Up reports and participate in review meetings.
• Validate payment requests, ensuring proper documentation, coding, and approvals.
• Assist in cash‑flow forecasting, funding requests, and monitoring fund availability.
• Lead month‑end and year‑end closing activities, including reconciliations and adjustments.
• Review and reconcile balance‑sheet accounts, resolving outstanding items.
• Oversee compliance with country‑specific tax, levy, and statutory filing requirements.
• Support rollout of new financial system functionalities and deliver training to staff.

Required profile

• Qualified professional with experience in financial management within an NGO or development context.
• Strong understanding of donor regulations, statutory compliance, and internal control frameworks.
• Proven ability to work collaboratively with project teams and senior management.
