Financial Accountant

About the role

We are seeking a detail‑oriented Financial Accountant to manage the university’s financial records, ensure compliance with Ugandan accounting standards, and support effective financial management within the Finance & Accounts department.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain accurate accounting records and prepare financial statements.
• Process payments, receipts, invoices, and journal entries.
• Reconcile bank accounts and general ledger accounts regularly.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
• Assist in budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning.
• Manage payroll processing and statutory deductions.
• Ensure compliance with Ugandan tax regulations and statutory requirements.
• Monitor accounts receivable and payable.
• Support internal and external audits by preparing required documentation.
• Maintain fixed‑asset registers and inventory records.
• Prepare financial reports for university management and stakeholders.
• Perform other finance‑related duties as assigned by the Finance Manager.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or a related field.
• 3–5 years of accounting experience, preferably in a university or educational institution.
• Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks, Tally, Sage or ERP systems.
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel and MS Office applications.
• Good understanding of Ugandan tax laws and financial regulations.
