Gender Officer

About the role

The Danish Refugee Council is seeking two Gender Officers to lead gender‑focused interventions in refugee and host communities across Uganda. The role will support gender equality, women’s empowerment and inclusive participation in climate‑smart agriculture and natural resource management.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement community action plans based on gender and power analysis findings.
• Design and deliver training for women leaders on climate‑smart agriculture, climate adaptation and sustainable resource management.
• Facilitate stakeholder meetings with government officials and community leaders to improve women’s access to land and resources.
• Organise community dialogues on positive masculinity, gender norms, women’s leadership and reduction of gender‑based violence.
• Mobilise women for leadership training and support their participation in decision‑making spaces.
• Produce and disseminate information on land rights, policies and laws for women and vulnerable groups.
• Conduct annual safety audits to identify and mitigate risks for women in project activities.
• Represent the project at settlement coordination, sector meetings and international events such as International Women’s Day.
• Provide technical back‑stopping to community structures and monitor gender‑responsive planning, implementation and reporting.

Required profile

• Relevant university degree (e.g., Gender Studies, Development Studies, Agriculture, Environment).
• Proven experience in gender programming, community mobilisation and training delivery.
• Strong knowledge of land rights, gender‑based violence prevention and climate‑smart agriculture.
• Excellent communication and facilitation skills, with ability to work with diverse stakeholders.
• Ability to travel within Uganda and work in field‑based settings.
