General Ledger Specialist

About the role

The General Ledger Specialist will ensure accurate and timely maintenance of the General Ledger for our operations in Kapeeka, supporting month‑end, quarter‑end and year‑end closing processes while complying with IFRS and Ugandan statutory requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals, pre‑payments, depreciation, amortisation and other adjustments.
• Maintain the chart of accounts, verify coding accuracy and monitor GL accounts for anomalies.
• Perform monthly reconciliations of all balance‑sheet accounts and resolve reconciling items promptly.
• Assist with month‑end, quarter‑end and year‑end closing, preparing supporting schedules for financial statements.
• Maintain the fixed‑asset register, conduct physical verification and ensure proper tagging.
• Process intercompany transactions, record elimination entries and reconcile intercompany balances.
• Support internal and external audits by preparing schedules and providing documentation.
• Assist with tax return preparation (VAT, Withholding Tax, PAYE, NSSF) and statutory filing to URSB.

Required profile

• Proven experience in general‑ledger accounting, account reconciliation and financial closing.
• Familiarity with IFRS and Ugandan tax and statutory reporting requirements.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work under tight deadlines.
