ICT Technical Assistant – Uganda (Isingiro)

About the role

The Norwegian Refugee Council is seeking an ICT Technical Assistant to support its offices in Uganda, primarily in the Isingiro region. The role focuses on advising on office technology, ensuring reliable network services, and maintaining system security across field locations.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical advisory services on new and appropriate office technology solutions.
• Plan and oversee technology upgrades, expansions and replacements, including needs assessment, specifications and budgeting.
• Configure and maintain network access privileges, applications, data storage and regular backups.
• Deliver ICT support to field offices to guarantee optimal performance of hardware and software.
• Schedule and manage regular maintenance, license renewals and preventive service for ICT equipment.
• Update and implement disaster recovery plans for data and office technology.
• Define, deploy and maintain system security, including antivirus and firewall protection.
• Monitor LAN/WAN bandwidth usage and recommend improvements.
• Maintain an up‑to‑date ICT configuration database for hardware and software assets.

Required profile

• B.Sc. degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field.
• Minimum three years of relevant work experience.
• Hands‑on experience with hardware, LAN/WLAN environments.
• Prior ICT experience in a humanitarian or NGO context is preferred.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work safely in insecure environments.
• Ugandan nationality; female candidates are highly encouraged.

• Microsoft Server administration (preferred).
• Cisco networking products (preferred).
• Antivirus and firewall deployment and management.
