Lead Marine Painter / Paint Inspector

About the role

The Lead Marine Painter / Paint Inspector will direct a team of marine painters and helpers in all phases of surface preparation, coating, and inspection for marine vessels and related structures. This position ensures work is performed safely, on schedule, and to the highest quality standards while managing inventory and hazardous materials.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and supervise marine painters and helpers in painting, coating, and surface preparation activities.
• Plan, coordinate, and monitor daily work assignments to meet service work orders safely and efficiently.
• Perform and oversee abrasive blasting, sanding, scuffing, priming, sealing, and painting of marine vessels, equipment, and structures.
• Inspect surface preparation and coating applications for compliance with specifications, quality standards, and manufacturer requirements.
• Document coating conditions, deficiencies, and corrective actions through paint inspections.
• Maintain accountability for paint shop inventories, including paints, coatings, abrasives, solvents, consumables, tools, and equipment.
• Determine material, equipment, and supply needs for painting and preservation projects.
• Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials in line with Safety Data Sheets and environmental regulations.
• Develop and support Job Safety Analyses and enforce PPE usage.
• Train, mentor, and provide on‑the‑job instruction to enhance technical proficiency.
• Coordinate with maintenance personnel, project managers, and customers to resolve technical issues.
• Maintain painting equipment and blasting systems in safe, serviceable condition.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum five (5) years of experience in marine or industrial surface preparation, abrasive blasting, painting, or protective coatings.
• At least two (2) years of supervisory or team‑lead experience.
• Demonstrated knowledge of marine coating systems, paint application techniques, and surface preparation methods.
• Valid passport with at least one year validity and ability to obtain required visas.
• Ability to pass contract medical requirements and maintain compliance throughout deployment.
