National Consultant - Gender Statistics and Data

About the role

UN Women Uganda is seeking a National Consultant to provide technical support for gender‑statistics initiatives, including the Violence Against Children and Women Survey (VACWS) 2025/26, citizen‑generated data projects, and gender‑responsive administrative data systems. The consultant will work closely with the Team Lead, Ending Violence Against Women, and national partners to improve the quality, comparability, and use of gender data for evidence‑based policy and programming.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical inputs to ensure survey methodology, instruments, indicator definitions and analysis plans capture gender‑related dimensions and risk factors.
• Review and integrate VAWG components into the VACWS survey plan, budget, ethical protocols and related documentation.
• Support the development, quality assurance and responsible use of citizen‑generated data, including criteria for relevance, accuracy and privacy.
• Strengthen capacity of national and non‑state actors in producing and using gender‑responsive data, and promote partnerships among government, CSOs, academia and the private sector.
• Coordinate with SDG5 and SDG16 custodian agencies, contribute to UN Women data reports, and organize training sessions on gender statistics.

Required profile

• Strong knowledge of Uganda’s national statistical office, gender machinery, related policies, legislation and the criminal justice system.
• Excellent analytical and research skills with the ability to work independently and deliver results.
• Demonstrated cultural and gender sensitivity and experience working in a multicultural environment.
