About the role
The Protection Associate supports UNHCR’s protection mandate by monitoring standards, coordinating timely responses, and ensuring that persons of concern are involved in decisions affecting their rights and solutions. Reporting to the Protection Officer, the role bridges protection policy with field implementation across Uganda.
Key responsibilities
- Monitor protection standards, SOPs and ensure compliance with international and national law.
- Provide advice on protection issues, liaise with authorities for documentation, and manage individual protection cases including GBV and child protection.
- Assist in eligibility and status determination, contribute to country‑level child protection and education plans.
- Identify durable solutions for persons of concern through repatriation, local integration or resettlement.
- Facilitate information management by supplying disaggregated data on protection needs.
Required profile
- Minimum 2‑3 years relevant experience in protection or humanitarian settings.
- High School Diploma with 3 years experience or Bachelor’s degree with 2 years experience.
- Knowledge of International Law, refugee protection principles and political science.
- IT/computer literacy and ability to work with protection data.
