Research & Development Director – Global Opportunity

About the role

Microhaem Scientifics & Medical Supplies Limited (MHS) is seeking a senior Research & Development Director to lead the creation of innovative medical‑device and diagnostic solutions. This global opportunity is based in Kampala, Uganda, and will guide projects from concept through commercialization.

Key responsibilities

• Lead end‑to‑end medical‑device product development and system architecture.
• Define design controls, product requirements, risk management, verification and validation activities.
• Drive point‑of‑care and rapid diagnostic technology development.
• Oversee design transfer, manufacturing readiness, and product lifecycle management.
• Conduct technical troubleshooting, root‑cause investigations, and continuous improvement.
• Engage with regulatory and health‑authority bodies.
• Collaborate cross‑functionally with R&D, Regulatory, Quality, Manufacturing and Clinical teams.
• Develop new commercially scalable technologies.

Required profile

• 10+ years of medical‑device R&D experience.
• Master’s degree in Biomedical, Electrical, Systems Engineering or related field; PhD preferred.
• Proven experience with point‑of‑care and rapid diagnostic technologies.
• Experience in a medical‑device startup or high‑growth environment is valued.
• Strong systems‑level thinking, technical problem‑solving and project leadership.
