Research & Development Director – Global Recruitment

About the role

We are seeking a senior Research and Development Director to lead the design, development and lifecycle management of our medical device portfolio. Based in Kampala, Uganda, you will act as the technical SME, driving product innovation while ensuring compliance with stringent regulatory standards.

Key responsibilities

• Lead end‑to‑end product development from concept through commercialization, aligning with WHO standards, ISO 13485, ISO 14971 and IEC guidelines.
• Translate user needs into product requirements, develop detailed development plans, and manage milestones, timelines and risk mitigation.
• Oversee design controls, verification & validation, risk management and human‑factors activities.
• Support regulatory submissions, health‑authority interactions and creation of design dossiers.
• Collaborate with Regulatory Affairs, Quality, Manufacturing, Clinical and Operations teams to ensure smooth design transfer and supplier management.
• Drive technical troubleshooting, root‑cause investigations and field issue resolution.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in regulated medical‑device development, preferably at a senior leadership level.
• Strong systems thinking with ability to manage both hardware and software components.
• Proven track record of delivering products that meet WHO, ISO and IEC standards.
• Excellent cross‑functional collaboration and communication skills.
