Research Manager

About the role

The Research Manager (RM) leads the delivery of a portfolio of research projects, ensuring scientific rigor, timely execution, and compliance with donor and regulatory requirements. The role combines technical, operational, financial, and people‑management oversight across the full research lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical, operational, financial and people‑management oversight from study planning through close‑out.
• Ensure projects are scientifically rigorous, delivered on time, within budget, and meet IPA standards and donor requirements.
• Develop research staff, manage project and stakeholder risks, and support continuous learning across the Uganda program.
• Contribute to new research ideas, funding opportunities and grant proposals.
• Oversee field research activities, including survey design, implementation, data collection, monitoring and quality assurance.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in economics, statistics, public health, epidemiology, development studies, public policy or a related social science.
• 4‑5 years of relevant professional experience managing multiple research projects or workstreams.
• Demonstrated ability to supervise field teams, manage budgets, and prepare donor reports.
• Full professional fluency in written and spoken English and willingness to travel up to 30%.

Required skills

• Statistical software: Stata, R, Python.
• Electronic data‑collection platforms: SurveyCTO, KoboToolbox, ODK.
• Quantitative research methods and experience with randomized controlled trials (preferred).
