School Nutrition Team Member (Elementary School)

About the role

The School Nutrition Team Member supports the delivery of nutritious, high‑quality meals to students and staff at Cougar Elementary School. Working under the Director of School Nutrition, the role involves food preparation, service, cashiering, and maintaining a clean, safe kitchen environment.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare, portion, and serve menu items such as fruits, vegetables, salads, soups, desserts, breads, and entrees following recipes.
• Operate commercial kitchen equipment (mixers, slicers, choppers, steamers, ovens, dishwashers) safely and efficiently.
• Maintain sanitary conditions in food preparation, serving, dining, storage, and kitchen areas in line with health department and USDA standards.
• Wash dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment; perform routine custodial duties.
• Receive, inspect, stock, and store food and supplies while rotating inventory.
• Assist with inventory estimation, ordering, and supply management.
• Operate the point‑of‑sale system and serve as cashier when assigned, handling payments accurately.
• Follow all food safety, sanitation, workplace safety, and district procedures.

Required profile

• Completion of eighth grade or equivalent education/experience.
• General knowledge of food preparation methods, large‑scale food service, and USDA regulations.
• Ability to work cooperatively with students, staff, parents, and the public.
• Physical ability to stand for extended periods and work in a warm kitchen environment.
• Patience, professionalism, and a positive attitude when interacting with children.

Required skills

• Operation of commercial kitchen equipment.
• Use of point‑of‑sale (POS) systems.
• Understanding of food safety and sanitation standards.

What we offer

• Full‑time schedule (6 hours per day) with benefits eligibility.
• Ten‑month school year contract (184 days).
