Scientist – Biomass

About the role

World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) is seeking a Scientist specialized in Biomass to lead and support research on natural resource management and forest governance. The role involves providing scientific guidance, developing research concepts, and ensuring high‑quality outputs across multiple regions.

Key responsibilities

• Provide scientific guidance to ensure research concepts and methods meet the highest scientific standards.
• Collaborate with theme coordinators and partners to define and implement research activities in emerging interest areas.
• Write, supervise, and mentor publications, scientific communications, and junior researchers.
• Lead capacity‑building initiatives, supervise students and staff, and represent CIFOR in national, regional, and global forums.
• Develop and maintain constructive partnerships with stakeholders and pursue additional funding for relevant research areas.
• Plan, monitor, and report on research activities, including budgeting and donor reporting.

Required profile

• PhD in a relevant discipline.
• Experience in collaborative natural resource management or social science research, with a record of peer‑reviewed publications.
• Proven ability to develop and manage budgets for multiple projects and meet financial objectives.
• Demonstrated success in resource mobilization, fundraising, and proposal development/writing.
• Fluent spoken and written English; additional international language(s) an advantage.
• Experience working with multiple partners, coordinating fieldwork in developing countries, and functioning in multicultural, multidisciplinary teams.
