Scientist - Macroeconomics

About the role

The World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) is seeking a Scientist specialized in Macroeconomics to lead high‑impact research on natural resource management and forest governance. The role combines scientific guidance, project leadership, and partnership development across multiple regions.

Key responsibilities

• Provide scientific guidance ensuring research concepts and methods meet the highest standards.
• Collaborate with theme coordinators to define and implement emerging research activities.
• Write, supervise, and disseminate peer‑reviewed publications and other scientific communications.
• Lead capacity‑building initiatives and mentor junior scientists and students.
• Represent CIFOR in national, regional, and global forums related to forest governance.
• Develop and maintain constructive partnerships with stakeholders and pursue additional research funding.
• Plan, monitor, and report on research activities, including budgeting and donor reporting.

Required profile

• PhD in a relevant discipline (e.g., economics, natural resource management, social sciences).
• Experience in collaborative natural resource management or social‑science research.
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects, develop budgets, and meet financial objectives.
• Strong record of peer‑reviewed publications.
• Demonstrated success in resource mobilization, fundraising, and proposal development.
• Fluent spoken and written English; additional international language(s) advantageous.
• Experience working with multiple partners and multidisciplinary teams in developing countries.
