Senior Associate – TMT/IP & Sustainability Law

About the role

The Senior Associate will work on sophisticated and emerging legal and policy matters at the intersection of technology, intellectual property, digital transformation, sustainability, ESG, climate finance and carbon markets. Reporting to the Partner & Head of the TMT/IP & Sustainability Practice Group, the role involves managing client relationships, supervising junior lawyers and driving business development and thought‑leadership.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage complex TMT/IP, sustainability, ESG and carbon‑market assignments.
• Act as a trusted adviser to technology companies, telecom operators, fintech firms, multinationals, carbon project developers and investors.
• Draft and review legal opinions, agreements, policies, transaction documents and regulatory submissions.
• Supervise Associates, junior lawyers and legal assistants, ensuring quality and timely delivery.
• Identify new business opportunities, lead pitches, proposals and tenders, and build relationships with regulators and industry bodies.

Required profile

• LL.B. from a recognised university and a Diploma in Legal Practice; admitted to practise law in Uganda.
• At least five years of post‑qualification experience in TMT/IP, fintech, data protection, sustainability, ESG or carbon‑market matters.
• Proven ability to draft and negotiate technology, commercial and regulatory agreements with limited supervision.
• Experience supervising junior lawyers and managing significant client matters.
