Senior Product Manager, Payments

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Product Manager to lead the payments product suite at Automattic. You will own the direction and execution of key payment experiences, from onboarding to payouts, ensuring reliability and merchant trust.

Key responsibilities

• Define product vision, goals and measurable outcomes for payments features such as checkout, refunds, disputes and reporting.
• Use data, merchant feedback and support signals to prioritize work and make trade‑off decisions.
• Collaborate with engineering, design and cross‑functional teams to ship high‑impact improvements.
• Manage integrations with major partners like Stripe and PayPal, handling dependencies and issue resolution.
• Communicate progress, risks and decisions clearly to stakeholders in a distributed environment.

Required profile

• 7+ years of product management experience, including senior individual contributor roles.
• 4+ years focused on payments or fintech products operating at scale.
• Strong product judgment and ability to make decisions with incomplete information.
• Comfort working on high‑trust, reliability‑critical systems.
• Excellent written and verbal communication in an async, remote‑first setting.

Required skills

• Experience with Stripe and PayPal integrations.
• Familiarity with WooCommerce, WordPress or other open‑source ecosystems.
