Senior Scientist – Land & Forest Tenure Reforms

About the role
The World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) is seeking a senior scientist to lead research on land and forest tenure reforms, providing scientific guidance and ensuring high‑quality outputs that inform policy and practice.
Key responsibilities
- Provide scientific guidance ensuring research concepts and methods meet the highest scientific standards.
- Collaborate with CIFOR theme coordinators to define and implement research activities in emerging interest areas.
- Write, supervise and contribute to scientific publications and other communications.
- Lead and supervise project capacity‑building initiatives, including mentoring junior scientists and students.
- Represent CIFOR in national, regional and global forums on forest governance.
- Develop and maintain constructive partnerships with stakeholders and seek additional research funding.
- Plan, monitor and manage research activities and budgets, and coordinate donor reporting.
Required profile
- PhD in a relevant discipline with a strong record of peer‑reviewed publications.
- Extensive experience in collaborative natural‑resource management or social‑science research, including multi‑country projects.
- Proven ability to develop and manage project budgets and secure donor funding.
- Fluent spoken and written English; additional international language(s) an advantage.
- Demonstrated experience working with multiple partners and multidisciplinary teams in developing‑country contexts.
