Value Chain Manager – Green Project (National)

About the role

The Value Chain Manager will provide technical leadership and quality assurance across the GREEN Project’s five priority Non‑Timber Forest Product (NTFP) value chains, ensuring that support is market‑led, commercially practical and aligned with forest conservation and climate‑resilience goals.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee the pool of NTFP Value Chain consultants, ensuring clear scopes of work, high‑quality deliverables and practical follow‑through for producer groups, entrepreneurs and cottage‑industry hosts.
• Provide technical guidance across the full value chain – from sustainable harvesting and aggregation to post‑harvest handling, processing, product development, quality control, packaging, certification and market linkage.
• Manage the technical work plan in coordination with the Project Coordinator, sequencing assessments, consultant inputs, field services, incubation and acceleration assistance and market‑linkage activities.
• Develop and maintain a structured technical‑assistance mechanism for receiving, prioritising and assigning specialist support to NTFP actors.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant agricultural or natural‑resource field with a postgraduate qualification.
• Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in agricultural, forestry or NTFP value‑chain development in Uganda, including at least 2 years of management or external engagement.
• Direct technical experience in one or more of the project’s priority value chains (bamboo, honey/apiculture, shea, cashew, wild mango) and strong knowledge of production, processing and market systems.
• Experience coordinating multidisciplinary consultants, delivering technical assistance to MSMEs, cooperatives or producer organisations, and ensuring quality of deliverables.
• Familiarity with Ugandan standards, UNBS certification processes and sustainable natural‑resource management.
