Volunteer Governing Board Member

About the role

The Main Street Academy is seeking a dedicated volunteer to join its Governing Board. As a board member you will help ensure the long‑term stability and integrity of the charter school while supporting its mission and strategic direction.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with the charter contract and all governing documents.
• Support the Executive Director in implementing the school’s vision and mission.
• Read and understand financial statements and assist with fiduciary duties.
• Provide financial support, resources, and partnerships for the school.
• Raise funds, attend board meetings, and actively participate in decision‑making.
• Advocate for the school and promote it within your professional network.
• Make a personal monetary contribution as required by the bylaws.
• Serve on or lead at least one committee each year and recommend new board members.
• Participate in strategic planning, legal compliance, and school‑wide events.

Required profile

• Sincere love of children and commitment to quality education.
• Knowledge of the school’s history, mission, and goals.
• Familiarity with bylaws, policies, and governance procedures.
• Professionalism, tact, enthusiasm, and strong communication skills.
• Ability to work both individually and collaboratively.
