Associate Agronomy Advisor

About the role

The Associate Agronomy Advisor will support the GROWTH project by delivering climate‑smart horticulture training, establishing demonstration plots, and providing extension services to smallholder farmers and farmer organizations across Jinja, Mbale, Kabale, and Fort Portal.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate implementation of climate‑smart horticulture production and technical advisory activities in line with project work plans.
• Facilitate farmer training on Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA), food safety, post‑harvest handling, and safe agro‑chemical use.
• Set up and monitor demonstration plots, ensuring compliance with market standards and produce quality management.
• Provide technical back‑stopping to farmer groups, value‑chain actors, and local extension teams.
• Collect field‑level data, track adoption of improved practices, and report against agreed indicators.
• Travel frequently within the assigned regions to supervise field activities and support farmer adoption.

Required profile

• Experience in agronomy, horticulture, or agricultural extension services.
• Familiarity with GAP, CSA, food safety, post‑harvest handling, and market‑oriented production practices.
• Ability to work with farmer organizations, cooperatives, and government extension teams.
• Willingness to travel regularly across multiple project sites.
