Chief Finance Officer – Insurance Intermediary

About the role

The client, a fast‑growing tech‑enabled micro‑insurance provider, seeks a Chief Finance Officer to lead the finance function in Uganda. You will be responsible for accounting, tax, regulatory reporting and setting up the finance operation from scratch.

Key responsibilities

• Establish the Uganda entity in the ERP (Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central), including chart of accounts, user access and approval workflows.
• Lead tax and statutory registrations (URA TIN, VAT, PAYE, NSSF, Local Service Tax) and support bank account set‑up and mobile‑money payment processes.
• Manage month‑end close, balance‑sheet reconciliations, monthly reporting to Group Finance and preparation of IFRS‑compliant annual financial statements.
• Ensure compliance with Ugandan insurance regulations, IRA licensing requirements and anti‑money‑laundering obligations.
• Oversee revenue reconciliation with mobile money aggregators, premium remittance to underwriting partners and cash‑flow management.

Required profile

• University degree in accounting, finance or commerce and CPA qualification (ICPAU member in good standing).
• Minimum four years of hands‑on accounting experience in insurance, micro‑insurance, fintech or mobile‑money environments, including month‑end close, tax filings and audit coordination.
• Ability to obtain IRA approval and meet fit‑and‑proper criteria, including police clearance and professional references.

Required skills

• Working knowledge of IFRS (including IFRS 15) and Uganda Revenue Authority tax rules.
• Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central or a similar ERP system.
• Advanced Excel skills for reporting and analysis.
