About the role
MiCT is seeking a freelance Community Manager to support up to 20 Fellows of its Journalist Protection Program in Uganda. The role runs from November 2026 to June 2027 and involves coordinating contractual, financial, safety and logistical aspects for at‑risk journalists.
Key responsibilities
- Coordinate contractual engagements and manage stipend transfers for Fellows.
- Provide legal, safety and relocation support, including accommodation and co‑working space arrangements.
- Organise procurement and contracting of training, expert consultations, workshops, insurance, language classes and other support services.
- Develop and manage safety measures for journalists and media makers.
- Plan and host at least one community meet‑up for alumni Fellows.
- Conduct regular check‑ins with MiCT’s Project Manager and Project Officer.
Required profile
- Proven experience in project management, especially in media development projects.
- Established connections within the regional media landscape and a large network of service providers.
- Strong community management skills and understanding of Uganda’s media and immigration environments.
- Ability to support legal and safety needs of journalists.
- Ideally based in Uganda.
