Country Finance Director

About the role

The Country Finance Director provides strategic financial leadership for WCS Uganda, ensuring robust financial management, compliance with donor and national requirements, and transparent use of resources. Reporting to the Country Director and dotted‑line to the Global CFO, the role oversees finance staff across multiple sites and supports the overall country program’s business goals.

Key responsibilities

• Lead annual institutional and project budget development, forecasting, and regular budget‑vs‑actual monitoring.
• Ensure all accounting and finance systems (including SAP) are accurate, compliant with WCS policies, GAAP, donor regulations and Ugandan law.
• Oversee cash‑flow forecasting, treasury operations, and secure fund management.
• Provide financial analysis and decision‑support to senior management and supervise the finance team.
• Coordinate internal, external and donor audits and implement audit recommendations.
• Manage grant financial oversight, ensuring cost recovery, donor compliance and timely reporting.

Required profile

• Advanced degree in Finance, Business Administration or related field; professional certification (CPA, ACCA or CIMA) required.
• Minimum 10 years post‑qualification experience, at least 5 years in senior finance management, preferably in a non‑profit or international organization.
• Proven experience managing large budgets, cash‑flow, and ERP systems.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving and communication skills; fluency in English.

Required skills

• Proficiency with SAP and other ERP financial systems.
• Advanced Excel skills for financial modelling and reporting.
• Expertise in budgeting, forecasting, cash‑flow management and financial controls.
• Experience with donor grant management and audit processes.
