Custodian

About the role

The Custodian ensures that all assigned areas are clean, sanitary, and safe for occupants. This role involves routine janitorial tasks, hazardous waste handling, and operation of specialized cleaning equipment while adhering to safety and environmental standards.

Key responsibilities

• Perform daily janitorial duties according to the schedule.
• Handle hazardous waste: collect, classify, sort, store, ship, receive, label, clean, recycle, and package special waste.
• Operate motorized cleaning equipment and, when required, forklifts.
• Maintain the cleanliness and upkeep of assigned areas and equipment.
• Report incidents, hazardous conditions, and safety concerns to supervisors.
• Follow all company policies, safety rules, and use personal protective equipment.
• Support shift leads, fill in during staff shortages, and collaborate with team members.

Required profile

• No specific education required; 3‑6 months of training or experience preferred.
• Valid driver’s license may be required.
• Completed safety and task‑training certifications; forklift certification may be required.
• Ability to lift/move up to 35 lb and perform repetitive tasks.
• Bilingual ability is a plus.

Required skills

• Operation of motorized cleaning equipment.
• Forklift operation (when certified).
• Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and safe handling procedures.
• Understanding of hazardous waste classification and disposal.
