Data Scientist

About the role

Stanbic Bank Uganda is seeking a Data Scientist to apply data mining, statistical analysis, machine learning and predictive modelling techniques to solve business problems. The role involves working with large structured and unstructured datasets to generate actionable insights, build predictive models and support data‑driven decision‑making across the bank. You will collaborate with cross‑functional teams to embed analytics into core banking processes.

Key responsibilities

• Apply data mining techniques and perform statistical analysis on both structured and unstructured data.
• Develop and operationalise predictive and machine‑learning models using Python or R.
• Work with big‑data platforms such as Hadoop, Spark and Kafka to process large data volumes.
• Design and maintain ETL pipelines and support data‑architecture initiatives.
• Create dashboards and visualisations with Power BI or Tableau and translate findings into business recommendations.
• Integrate models into production systems and collaborate with technology and business teams.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Studies, Statistics, Data Science or a related field.
• 3–4 years of experience handling structured and unstructured data in a financial services environment.
• Proven experience in data mining, machine learning, predictive modelling, business intelligence and data visualisation.
• Understanding of credit‑scoring, propensity and churn modelling concepts.
• Experience in technical BI project management and data‑integrity principles.
