Elevator Mechanic

About the role

We are seeking an Elevator Mechanic to maintain and repair the mechanical and electrical systems of embassy elevators, ensuring safety, certification and continuous operation. The role reports to the Elevator Supervisor and works on‑site at the embassy facility.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain a safe workplace and prioritize safety compliance with Environmental Health & Safety and Quality Assurance requirements.
• Diagnose and repair faults in brakes, motors, switches, and control systems using test lamps, ammeters, voltmeters and other diagnostic tools.
• Disassemble defective units and replace or repair parts such as locks, gears, cables, and safety devices.
• Lubricate bearings and other components to reduce friction.
• Install or repair transformers, switchboards, controllers, circuit breakers, motors, heating units and conduit systems.
• Interpret blueprints, engineering drawings and wiring diagrams to locate and resolve equipment issues.
• Perform preventative maintenance according to published schedules and provide input for task upgrades.
• Conduct equipment testing with voltmeters, ammeters, ohmmeters, continuity testers and other trade tools.
• Execute additional duties and projects as assigned.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED required; apprenticeship with a Journeyman’s Certificate or equivalent field experience strongly preferred.
• Familiarity with engineering sketches, wiring diagrams and manufacturers’ maintenance manuals.
• Knowledge of applicable US (and European where relevant) Electrical Codes and standard trade practices.
• Experience with annual maintenance and load‑testing procedures for electrical and mechanical systems.
