Epidemiologist – Malaria & NTD Analytics & Surveillance (Africa)

About the role
The Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) is seeking a highly motivated Epidemiologist/Research Associate to support malaria and neglected tropical disease (NTD) analytics and surveillance across Anglophone East, Central and West Africa. The role will work closely with CHAI’s global, regional and country teams, as well as government counterparts, to design, implement and scale disease surveillance systems.
Key responsibilities
- Collaborate with teams in Nigeria, Ethiopia, Uganda and other partner countries to assess and strengthen surveillance infrastructure.
- Conduct epidemiological analyses, monitor disease trends and evaluate the impact of interventions.
- Translate analytical results into actionable recommendations for policymakers and program managers.
- Prepare technical reports, dashboards and visualisations for internal and external stakeholders.
- Support the development of data collection tools and standard operating procedures.
Required profile
- Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in Epidemiology, Public Health, Biostatistics or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience working on malaria, NTDs or other infectious disease programs in low‑ and middle‑income settings.
- Strong analytical mindset with the ability to synthesize complex data sets.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
Required skills
- Proficiency in epidemiological methods and study design.
- Experience with data analysis and statistical software (e.g., R, Stata, SAS).
- Ability to develop and interpret surveillance dashboards and visualisations.
