Head of Human Resources

About the role

The Aga Khan Education Service Uganda is seeking an experienced Head of Human Resources to lead its HR function. This senior role combines day‑to‑day operational expertise with strategic vision to support the organisation’s mission of academic excellence and inclusive education.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement HR strategies aligned with AKESU and global AKES objectives.
• Act as a culture change agent, driving organisational transformation and employee engagement.
• Manage workforce budgeting, cost optimisation, and turnover reduction.
• Oversee talent acquisition, onboarding, performance management, succession planning and leadership development.
• Provide guidance on labour law compliance and complex employee‑relations issues.
• Design and administer competitive compensation and benefits programmes, conducting regular market analyses.
• Support organisational design, restructuring and effectiveness initiatives.

Required profile

• Proven senior HR leadership experience, preferably in education or non‑profit sectors.
• Strong understanding of talent management, compensation, employee relations and regulatory compliance.
• Ability to influence senior leadership and work closely with boards and management teams.
• Excellent communication, analytical and change‑management skills.
