Head of Risk Control Unit

About the role

The Head of the Risk Control Unit will lead post‑sanction governance, ensure compliance with credit policies, and provide high‑quality reporting to support sound risk management and business performance within a leading African bank.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement consistent policies and processes for post‑sanction monitoring and control across the unit.
• Maintain personal adherence to governance, compliance, and lending‑portfolio controls, ensuring data integrity.
• Collaborate with centre and in‑country credit teams to identify gaps in post‑sanction processes and devise remediation plans.
• Monitor wholesale portfolio compliance with sanction terms, conduct quarterly risk reviews, and perform critical process assessment tests.
• Achieve and track risk performance targets, taking corrective actions as needed.
• Manage facility limits, diary system for deficiencies and covenant dates, and oversee financial covenant and internal risk trigger monitoring.
• Review interest rates and commissions for corporate customers and coordinate with legal on non‑standard documentation.
• Promote knowledge sharing and best‑practice adoption across the Risk Control Unit.

Required profile

• Proven experience in risk management and credit‑portfolio oversight within a banking environment.
• Strong understanding of post‑sanction processes, governance, and compliance frameworks.
• Leadership capability to manage a team and drive performance against risk targets.
• Excellent communication skills for reporting up and down the organisation.
